RJN Group, Inc. provides a solution for maintenance costing on infrastructure
assets, (sewer, water, storm and pavement) that allows for justified
costs of repair vs. replacement. The CASS solution provides value added
programming that links assets, GIS, customer service requests, work
order processing and costs and maintenance accomplishments into a unified
solution.
When looking for an original solution RJN was interested in taking a
20 year old software solution in a focused market segment and with
a suite of programming tools including IdeaBlade DevForce, Infragistics,
and Microsoft Visual Studio 2005, enhanced the functionality, extensibility
and intuitiveness of their product.
The application is built using Microsoft’s .NET Framework and Visual
Studio and is a rich client application using the Windows Forms feature
for the user interface. The application includes Web Services and distributed
modeling while talking to multiple databases and working on multiple
servers. The CASS application also leverages .NET Compact Framework while
interacting with mobile devices.
The challenges that RJN Group, Inc. faced included migrating from dated
GUI programming tools to the flexibility of Microsoft Visual Studio
2005. The ecosystem prior to implementing the new solution was client/server
using third party development tools. Based on industry demands RJN
felt compelled to adopt next generation development.
The Project is currently in development but when deployed will support
over 5000 users. When using the combination of IdeaBlade DevForce and
Microsoft Visual Studio 2005, RJN Group, Inc. found a solution that
not only provides the business agility they were demanding but also
enabled them to bring their application to market quickly with increased
productivity and lowered development cost. By providing an application
that offers ease of integration and scalability it also allows their
customers a very robust solution with low cost of ownership.
