Learning Materials
On this page you will find downloads of learning materials to rocket you up the
DevForce learning curve.
If you’re in a terrible hurry, you can jump
to the Downloads section, download everything, and figure out
what you got later. Otherwise, here’s the
explanation.
Instructional Units
IdeaBlade’s learning materials are organized into
Instructional Units that contain a variety of materials targeting a particular
topic. Each instructional unit may contain some or all of the following components. (None contain all!)
- One or more PowerPoint slide decks
- One or more Tutorial scripts (in Microsoft Word format)
- Beginning and Completed code solutions in C# and VB, associated with the tutorial
scripts.
- Code snippets for use in completing the tutorials;
- One or more videos that elucidate the PowerPoint slides deck(s);
- One or more videos that demonstrate the tutorial(s);
- One or more videos that address the topic but which are not specifically synchronized
with an included slide deck or tutorial; and
- Additional reference materials such as articles or other materials.
While the tutorial scripts and associated code solutions are shipped with the product,
the PowerPoint slide decks and videos are not, because of their size.
But you can get them here, as part of complete instructional units.
Folder Structure of an Instructional Unit
An Instructional Unit with all possible pieces will have a folder structure similar
to the one shown below for the Object Mapping instructional unit:

If the Instructional Unit includes a tutorial, you will find the written script
for the tutorial in the Learning Scripts folder as a Microsoft Word document. Its title with be prefixed “Tut_”, as for
the file “Tut_Create a Business Model With the Object
Mapper.doc”, shown above for the Object Mapping instructional unit.
The tutorial script will provide instructions to take you from the Beginning
Solution to the Completed Solution in your choice of either C# or Visual Basic. You can optionally use the provided code snippets
(in the Snippets folders) in completing the tutorial, and you may also wish to use
them in your own development work, either unmodified or customized to suit your
particular needs.
Videos
Videos, if included, will comprise a selection of files similar to the one shown
below for the Object Mapping video. The videos
require a recent version of the Macromedia Flash player to be installed on your
machine. To launch the video, double-click
the file with the “.html” extension.

The Downloads
Downloads include the following items:

- Self-extracting zips of multiple instructional units, grouped by their technical
level, and not containing videos; and

Self-extracting zips of individual instructional units from the Fundamentals category,
with videos.

This page describes the contents of individual instructional units, and provides
links to the individual units that will work if the units are extracted into a common
parent folder.

The DevForce instructional units are provided in the following download links. The units are categorized into buckets that
correspond roughly to your anticipated order of need for the techniques and tools
they illustrate. Each of the categories is
packaged as a self-extracting zip file, which you can download or execute directly
by clicking the provided link below:
100-Series (Fundamentals) Instructional Units with Videos
In addition to the above, the instructional units in the 100 Fundamentals series
are provided as individual downloads that include videos.
If you want the videos and have the bandwidth to download large files, we
suggest that you download the Fundamentals topics with the links below rather than
the single link provided above. The self-extracting
zips below will provide everything included in the one above,
plus the videos.
